Penis pumps are often marketed towards men with smaller penises who might be more invested in increasing the size of their manhood. However, this completely disregards the other main use of a penis pump - helping with penile conditions such as erectile dysfunction. And, to be fair, it isn't just men with smaller members who might like to work on increasing their size.
Thankfully, the now iconic penis pump brand Bathmate recognized the gap in the market for pumps designed to be used by men with average-to-larger penises and created the Hydro7. After it took off, they looked at the design and decided it wasn't powerful or comfortable enough - so they created the Hydromax7.
The Hydromax7 is a manual hydro pump that Bathmate claims is capable of delivering 35% more suction than its predecessor, the original Hydro7.
If it's the real deal, that would mean you'd get increased and more consistent gains than with the original. It also features an improved bellows pumping system, and an elastomer insert for extra comfort - all of which sound like great additions.
In this article, we've taken a detailed look at the Hydromax7, examining every aspect of it, and putting its performance to the test to see if Bathmate really has delivered on its promise - to deliver a straightforward upgrade over the original Hydro7 in almost every way. Do we like the pump? We really do - so read on to find out our expert opinions.
Our Verdict
At a glance, here's how the Bathmate Hydromax7 hydro penis pump stacks up against our reviewing criteria:
About the Bathmate Hydromax7
The Bathmate Hydromax7 is a hydraulic water pump, with "hydro" referring to how it uses water pressure to draw blood into your penis, as opposed to air pressure. It's an upgraded version of Bathmate's original Hydro7 pump; the Hydromax7 claims to be 35% more powerful than its predecessor thanks to improvements to the build and material of the bellows at the base of the pump.
This is a manual hydro pump that uses the aforementioned bellows to apply water pressure to your penis in an even and comfortable manner. It's designed to fit penises between 5 and 7 inches long, with girths of up to 6.5 inches. The cylinder has lots of room to grow irento, and features textud segments to improve grip. You'll also find a measuring gauge running down the side.
At the very tip of the cylinder is the Super Flow Latch Valve, which allows you to easily fill the pump in the shower with one hand and quickly relieve the pressure if necessary.
This safety feature is a welcome addition, as the pump lacks a pressure gauge (common with water pumps). A further very welcome inclusion is the insertable elastomer comfort pad that inserts into the base.

Standard Hydromax7 vs Hydromax7 Wide
The only difference between the standard Hydromax7 pump and the Hydromax7 wide pump (also known as the Hydromax7 Wide Boy) is the size of the penises they are designed to accommodate. However, both pumps are the same length, designed to be used by men with erect penises between 5 and 7 inches long. The difference is in the girth accommodation.
While the standard pump is designed to be suitable for men whose erect penises are less than 6.5 inches in girth, the Hydromax 7 Wide Boy can handle slightly larger girths - up to around 7.5 inches. This doesn't sound like a huge difference, but it's noticeable in practice. When you're applying pressure to your penis, you need to use a pump that's the right size to avoid overcompression - so that 1-inch difference can be vital.
If you have a penis larger or smaller than the recommended size for the Hydromax7 and the Hydromax7 Wide Boy, we'd suggest taking a look at some alternative Bathmate hydro pumps.
There are quite a few options available, ranging from those designed for penis size between 1 to 3 inches long and up to 6.5 inches in girth, all the way to those designed for penises 9 to 11 inches long and up to 8.5 inches in girth.
Material Quality
The main cylinder of the Bathmate Hydromax7 is built entirely out of hard plastic. It feels very nice and premium and certainly seems to be quite durable. Repeatedly dropping it from great heights isn't the right way to treat it, but we wouldn't be surprised if it survived anyway. The middle section with the measuring gauge feels smooth, and there are textured segments at the top and bottom that make it easier to hold on to during your pumping session.
At the base of the Bathmate hydro pump cylinder is the bellows-style pump, which is also made out of plastic. This plastic is a little softer as it's designed to move as you pump, but it still feels durable and is sturdily attached to the cylinder despite it having the ability to swivel a full 360 degrees. Speaking of movement, all the moving parts, including the valve on the top of the pump, feel solid, like they wouldn't break without a fair bit of intentional force.
There's also the elastomer comfort insert that fits right beneath the bellows - the pump's entrance. This elastomer material, which feels a lot like TPE, is soft and high quality - it adds a lot to the comfort of the experience, fulfilling its intention.
It also feels as though it won't break or tear easily - an easy upgrade over a foam insert.
All the materials used in the Hydromax7 are body-safe, hypoallergenic, and free from latex and phthalates. Elastomer/TPE is, however, a more porous material than plastic or silicone, so you'll need to pay extra attention to thoroughly washing and drying the comfort insert to ensure it remains hygienic.
Features
The Bathmate Hydromax7 is a hydro penis pump designed for men with penises between 5 and 7 inches in length, and up to 6.5 inches in girth. These sizes allow it to fill a specific gap in the penis pump market - men with average-to-larger penises who are interested in penis pumping - either for size or for help with erectile dysfunction. As with all Bathmate pumps, the side of the cylinder features a measuring gauge that lets you track your gains in both imperial and metric units.
The concertina-style bellows at the base are what you use to pump the Bathmate Hydromax pump - as you do this, the water displaced by your penis is released through the valve at the top. The plastic cylinder can swivel 360 degrees above the bellows, allowing you to move the measuring gauge out of the way for a clearer view of your penis growth.
Textured sections at the top and bottom of the cylinder help give you a more secure grip as you're pumping, even if you have lube on your hands.
You may have noticed that there isn't a pressure gauge on the pump, which is usually an important safety feature. However, unlike with an air pump, hydro pumps apply pressure more evenly, which helps avoid overcompression and pain. Still, the lack of a pressure gauge means this pump is a bit more suitable for intermediate and experienced users who have used a penis pump before and know what they're doing.
A few more features that make the Hydromax7 an upgrade over the original Hydro7 are the Super Flow Latch Valve system - which lets you easily fill the pump one-handed in the shower and acts as a quick-release pressure valve for safety - and the included elastomer comfort pad. This insertable pad helps support your penis, makes the experience much more comfortable, and also gives you a tighter vacuum seal.
Performance
As we mentioned earlier, the Hydromax7 claims to provide 35% more suction than its predecessor (the Hydro7), allowing it to, theoretically, give you more penis gains. Is this the truth? Well, it's hard to know exactly how much more powerful it is in objective terms - but it definitely feels a fair bit stronger. With consistent use, users report temporary gains of between 1 to 3 inches in length, and a little extra girth too, but you'll need to find a pumping routine that works for you.
The original Hydro7 is a good pump, but it stands out as a starter option - it's a bit more gentle, which makes it a little safer, but it's not the best for making real, non-temporary gains. We feel that this, more powerful Bathmate pump is a fantastic next step, allowing slightly more experienced users to make larger gains that last much longer and - if anecdotal online evidence is to be believed - may even be permanent with enough consistent use. It's also still easy enough for beginners to use.
Thankfully, the pump's comfort and durability mean we had no qualms about using it regularly.
The only real criticism we have of the pump is that the valve can sometimes be a little leaky unless you close it just right - this can mess with the pressure, so you need to take care to shut it properly. Oh, and you'll also get a better vacuum seal if your pubes are trimmed - but that's always the case with penis pumps.
Some particularly girthy users found that they got slight bruising around their pubic bone from use, which was apparently painless but still not ideal. We didn't have this problem, so if you stay within the size guidelines, you should be just fine.
Bathmate Hydromax7 Review: Summary
Overall, we were very impressed with the Bathmate Hydromax7. It's great for temporary gains and in-the-moment boosts, and its comfort and ease of use make it a fantastic choice if you're planning on using it regularly over an extended period of time for permanent gains. Our testers were super happy with their experience, and customers offer similarly high praise.
Thanks to how it uses water instead of air pressure, you get a much more even application of pressure which helps prevent overcompression and bruising
The price point is quite high for a non-automatic hand pump, but since you'll typically be using it consistently over several months and even years to push back against Erectile Dysfunction (ED) or work towards gains, we reckon you'll be getting your money's worth.
The quality of the pump also helps in this regard. Due to its rock-solid construction and premium build materials, it should last you a very long time - even more so if you keep it cleaned and maintained, and don't throw it around too carelessly. If you're a man with an average-to-larger penis who's looking for a comfortable and consistently reliable way to pump, we highly recommend the Hydromax7.
